Perspiration or sweating helps our body to maintain its temperature however, when it becomes excessive, it can create problems at work and lead to social anxieties. So, the social and emotional toll can be serious. Though there are some medical treatments available to treat excessive sweating that you can discuss with your doctor however, there are some ways and home remedies that can help you to stop sweating armpits.
How To Stop Sweating Armpits
1. Bathe Regularly
It is necessary to shower daily to wash away the sweat otherwise bacteria on your skin can turn the old sweat into smelly armpits. To lower the surface temperature of your skin, try to end your shower with 2 minutes of cold water. This will help you to sweat less right away after taking the shower. Keep in mind to pat dry your armpits with a soft towel and not to rub them vigorously. This is because vigorous scrubbing can irritate your skin making it to sweat more.
2. Choose A Caring Antiperspirant

It is now time to ditch your standard deodorant and switch to antiperspirant if you want to stop soaking your clothes. Ordinary deodorants help to kill odour under your arms but these are not designed to stop sweating completely. While buying deodorant, keep in mind to check the label that says both ‘antiperspirant’ and ‘deodorant’. Antiperspirants not only help in killing odour-causing bacteria but also actively block your sweat glands from producing underarm sweat. Keep in mind is to apply the antiperspirant to dry and clean skin. It is better to apply antiperspirant at night after bathing as at this point, your body is coolest and it allows the active ingredient to work better.

3. Shave Your Armpits
When you have hairy armpits, these trap moisture and don’t allow it to evaporate naturally which further leads to sweat build-up. However, this trapped sweat is broken down by bacteria leading to body odour. So, it is important to manage your armpit hair to avoid this chain-reaction. Moreover, trimming your armpit hair will also allow the antiperspirant to make direct contact with your skin thereby improving its performance.

4. Wear Loose, Natural, Breathable Clothing

There are some foods that help to calm overactive sweat glands thereby reducing sweat production. For example – dairy products, vegetables & fruits with high water content (such as spinach, cauliflower, broccoli, eggplant, grapes, watermelon, etc.), oats, olive oil, almonds, sweet potatoes, green tea, etc. So, try to have such foods to reduce sweat production.
8. Keep Yourself Hydrated
Whenever our body temperature rises or we are dehydrated, our body naturally produces more sweat. Drinking plenty of water can bring our internal temperature down, so our body doesn’t have to lower it more by sweating.
9. Manage Stress
Our mind and state of our body are inter-related. Whenever our body is under extreme stress, it enters fight-or-flight mode thereby increasing our body temperature and opening up sweat pores. 10. Try Natural Sweat-Reducing Solutions
There are some home remedies that you can try to reduce armpit sweat.
- Apple Cider Vinegar & Witch Hazel – Both these liquids help to reduce sweat as these are natural astringents and help to control odour-causing bacteria. With the help of a cotton pad, apply ACV at night before going to bed so as to give it enough time to seep in and rinse off the next morning. You can apply witch hazel with a cotton ball and can rinse it off after 30 minutes.
- Baking Soda – Mix baking soda with some water to get a paste-like consistency. Apply this paste to your armpits for 10-15 minutes and then wipe it off with a cloth.
- Baby Powder – Sprinkle some baby powder on your armpits to prevent soaked clothing.
- Lemon Juice – Take some lemon juice and massage your armpits with this. The presence of citric acid in lemon juice constricts sweat glands and lessens perspiration.
