To maintain the health of your hair, it is important to condition them properly. There are some conditioners that are meant to be left in your hair, called as leave-in conditioners but on the other hand, the rinse-off conditioners should be rinsed off after a few minutes. In this post, I will try to answer the question, what happens if you don’t rinse out the conditioner? In one of my previous posts, I have shared 12 Rules To Follow For Healthy Hair so, make sure to check this post as well.

What Happens If You Don’t Rinse Out Conditioner

1. Build-up

The main reason behind not leaving the conditioner in your hair for an extended period is that they contain certain chemicals that are not good for your hair. Generally, all the conditioners contain almost similar chemicals such as Dimethicone, Trimethicone, Dimethiconol, phenyl trimethicone, simethicone, plydimethylsiloxane, etc. If your conditioner is having any such chemicals then, your hair will have build-up and will feel heavy and sticky if you don’t rinse out your conditioner. This build-up can cause clogging of hair follicles thereby leading to hair fall.

2. Itchy Scalp

As shared above, leaving the conditioner in your hair for an extended period can lead to build-up on the scalp and hair. This can lead to scalp itchiness and irritation. So, it is best to use a leave-in conditioner rather than a rinse-out conditioner and if you are using the latter then, make sure to rinse it off well.

3. Dusty Residue

If you don’t rinse out your conditioner, it gets dried up leaving behind a dusty residue on the scalp. This may again lead to clogging of hair follicles thereby leading to hair fall.

How To Rinse Conditioner Out of Your Hair Properly

  • Wet your hair thoroughly with water.
  • Apply shampoo and rinse it properly from your hair.
  • Take conditioner (about the size of a quarter) in your palm.
  • Spread the conditioner slowly through your hair focusing on the hair tips. Avoid applying it to your scalp.
  • Run your fingers or a comb through the ends of your hair.
  • For one or two minutes (as mentioned on the product), let your conditioner sit in your hair.
  • Rinse the conditioner from your hair and make sure that none is left behind.

Though conditioning is an important part of hair wash routine but make sure not to leave the conditioner in your hair longer than the prescribed time and rinse it off properly.
