Most people fail in web conferences due to bad lighting. Overhead lighting is the worst kind of lighting as it makes shadows under your eyes. For even and steady lighting, keep one steady lamp, directly by your face so that light is hitting your face straight-on and there should be no sidelight or backlight. Avoid sitting with your back to the window rather, face the window to get a soft, people-pleasing light. 

2. Position The Camera Right

Next, an important tip to look your best on video calls or for zoom meetings is to keep the camera at your eye-level or higher. If positioned at a lower level then, it will show off your nose hair and a lot of chin. All you need is a tower of books to raise your laptop so that the camera lens meets you at eye level. Keep a couple of books underneath your laptop to boost it up, so that you are at eye level with the camera.
